			<content:encoded><![CDATA[While running the wine bar upstairs I always get the question “Is wine good for you?” Well, if you drink any alcohol drink in moderation, of course, it is good for you, whether, it helps your digestion, whether it relaxes you after a day at work or whether you just want to have some fun.  However, I always tell customers, if they want to be good, they should stick to wine, and not any type of wine….we’re talking red wine. “Red wine is good for you!” It has lots of anti-oxidants that prevent heart disease, it helps your blood circulation, and it is said to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. But what exactly is there in wine that makes it so valuable. It’s called Resveratrol! Red wine contains Resveratrol with different concentrations depending on different grape varieties. There’s no doubt that red wine has more Resveratrol than white wine because red wine is fermented with the skin (that contain the Resveratrol) while white wine is fermented after the skin has been removed. Resveratrol prevents damage to blood vessels, prevents blood clots and reduces bad cholesterol. Resveratrol has come to researchers’ attention in the 1990s to explain the “French Paradox”, specifically, French people eating high-fat diets with a low incidence of heart disease.

It is said, because of its high content of resveratrol, if drank in large quantities (60liters/day) wine could preserve one’s aging, in particular it could slow down the genes controlling the aging process.  Nobody, could drink such quantities… that’s why researchers came up with the idea of resveratrol supplements-pills that could delay the aging process….nobody, however, knows so far the effect of these supplement pills.  

For everyone’s information the wine that contains the highest levels of Resveratrol is Pinot Noir.<div id="wpcr_respond_1"></div>]]></content:encoded>

<p><strong>Hampton, NH – </strong>The Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards dinner last night, honoring area businesses and individuals who have succeeded and made a difference in the community.  We are proud to announce The 401 Tavern was chosen as Business of the Year during the event!</p>
<p>Owners Mark LaRoche and Dan “Desi” Lanio first opened “The 401” on March 12, 2009 and it was quickly welcomed by the community.  Now, “The 401” sits as a landmark of downtown Hampton.</p>
<p>“We are humbled and excited to be honored by The Chamber of Commerce and<strong> </strong>our fellow business leaders with this award,” Lanio said. “I have lived and worked in Hampton for more than 20 years and am so proud of the great restaurants and businesses our small town has to offer.  There is truly a feeling of partnership among the business owners in this town, and a feeling of family with our patrons.”</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.the401tavern.com/restaurant/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/CDP-Label.gif"><img style="margin-left: 20px; margin-right: 20px;" title="CDP Label" src="http://www.the401tavern.com/restaurant/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/CDP-Label-300x223.gif" alt="" width="300" height="223" align="left" /></a>If you ask most of my customers what is their favorite wine, they would answer Chateauneuf –Du- Pape. A year and half ago I did not pay  a lot of attention to this wine, always considering it overrated and overly marketed. However, one day one of my suppliers came to The 401 Tavern and tasted me on a Chateauneuf -Du -Pape….it was heaven! The color was a ruby red with aromas of fruit, hints of gariggues, spice and earth, dry and smooth on the palate. A true reflection of the terroir! It was time to pay more attention to Chateauneuf-Du-Pape. So, I decided to make Chateauneuf one of my destinations throughout my vacation in May 2011. Beautiful place!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Throughout time, Chateauneuf-Du-Pape became a well-known appellation (AOC) in the Rhone region. The predominant grape in any Chateauneuf-Du-Pape wines is the Grenache, usually blended with syrah and mourvedre. Other blending grapes are used as well but in a smaller proportion: Cinsault, Vaccarese, Grenache Blanc , Bourboulenc etc…</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Papal tradition of planting vines dates back to the 13<sup style="font-family: Calibri;">th</sup> century with the Popes in Avignon being the first  wine producers in Chateauneuf when they chose this small village to be their papal summer residence.  The first appellation in Chateaueuf was “Vin Du Pape” that later became Chateuneuf Du Pape. The Castle ruin that stands at the top of the hill, that one of the Popes built, represents a symbol of the Chateauneuf-Du-Pape appellation.  Chateauneuf became a  royal wine based on superior quality that was later exported thorough France, Europe and US.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Robert Parker is the wine critic who discovered Chateauneuf wines and made it well known around the world. He even was made a honorary citizen of the village being given all the credit for growth in popularity if the wines.<div class="divider top"><a href="#">Top</a></div></p><div id="wpcr_respond_1"></div>]]></content:encoded>
